So we once again have fun with filmmakers The BAPartists. This time we talk with them and two of the stars from their movie, The Taking. We speak with Linda Rodriguez and Frank Bliss. As usual, it is mind blowingly (I just made up that word) hilarious. Podcast is below the image. Enjoy!
Okay, now I am getting angry. First of all, as I have said many times, I don’t mind remakes. Hell, reboots can be alright, if they are actually reboots, and not some lazy, half assed remake-reboot hybrid. This 21 Jump Street thing, I don’t get.
I am a huge fan of the show. I know very little about the film, but I already know it is potentially going the aforementioned Nightmare remake route (Channing Tatum’s character is named Jenko; in the show, the character Blowfish was played by Sal Jenco. There is an appearence from Officer Hanson. Not so subtle references?). Even worse than that, is the decision to make it a comedy. The show dealt with a wide array of serious topics like drugs, AIDS, death, etc. This film also deals with drugs with a storyline that seems remarkably similar to an episode of Strangers with Candy, also a comedy. The reason why Jump Street was so good was that it exposed the plight of high school students and making their problems important and apparent to otherwise unknowing adults. Teens could relate and adults could learn. This film seems like an attempt to use an existing property to get people in to theater seats to remark about how much weight Jonah Hill has lost.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Jonah Hill. I like comedies. I like police comedies. I saw Police Academy 4 in the theater for God’s sake. But, what the fuck does this have to do with 21 Jump Street? The only direct connection that I have noticed so far, is the undercover cops in high school story, which is hardly exclusive to 21 Jump Street. If you listen to any our podcasts that mention remakes, you will hear me time and again compain about using an exiting property to get bodies in the theater, but the final product has nothing really to do with that property. I’m not saying don’t make the picture, but can you please just call it something else? Fuck it, call it “Funny Cops,” for all I care, at least I won’t go into the theater already comparing it to its predecessor. When you name something after something else, you are forever attaching it to the universe of that something. “Hey remember how cool that animated G.I. Joe movie was?” “Hell yeah! You remember how fucking retarted the 2 live action ones were? Now I hate G.I. Joe. I threw all my action figures in the sewer because of those films. I have also slain several children in reaction to those films.”
Please, 21 Jump Street: The Movie. Don’t make me slay children and hate Johnny Depp. Change the name. That’s all I ask.
So here is the second part of the podcast. We still discuss Ghostbusters for a bit, then we go all over the place, mostly memory lane. But the funny is still there. Enjoy!
What a fun podcast this was. We had Scott from 3smov Radio, Kenny from United Front Gaming, and The Dive Mistress from The Avod and Zombots! join us. We originally intended for the podcast to be about all things Ghostbusters. We did a good job sticking to that subject for about an hour. We then spent another hour talking about nostalgia and other random things. Enjoy the part 1 and stay tuned for part 2!
For our 300th review, we decided to do something different. We chose my favorite comfort movie, Weekend at Bernie’s. It is mentioned all through this blog that I like this film but for some reason we had not reviewed it yet. For this review, however, we recorded a podcast of us watching it. We basically just make fun of it, but we do give it credit when it is due. Enjoy!
The writer/director of Ghost from the Machine (a film you must see) was nice enough to chat with us for an hour about his excellent film. We also covered the movie making process and other various topics. It was a lot of fun, and we can expect to see more brilliant things from this gifted filmmaker. Enjoy!
Well, other than an uninspired title. Is this Eddie Murphy’s comeback? Or just another shit sandwich of a movie? Embedded below you will find the trailer for today’s discussion Tower Heist. Please scroll down and watch it. No, I’ll wait.
Caught up now? Great! Let’s begin.
What the hell? I cannot begin to describe how I feel about that preview or the prospect of the subsequent movie. No, I really can’t. I saw this trailer with Digger in front of Cowboys & Aliens and I had never heard of it before. Immediately after, I wondered if this was a comedy, drama, or absurdest tale like Daddy Day Care.
First thing: does Hollywood really think plastering Brett Ratner’s name on a trailer is a draw? You can apparently only say “From the director of Dark Knight” about Nolan but Ratner and his shenanigans get a pass? Fuck that.
Second thing: really, is this supposed to be a comedy? Because it was not funny. I would be more apt to see it if it had a sorta-black humor quality to it and if it were played as a straight-up heist movie, I might actually be sort of excited. Sadly, the trailer (probably like the movie) does not know what the hell genre to portray and thus it is all over the place.
Third thing: Can Eddie Murphy just go away? Pretty please with sugar on top? You needn’t have more example why than the embedded video below.
Fourth thing: Can Matthew Broderick get some decent roles with the hopeful retirement of Eddie Murphy? Lest we forget he was Ferris Bueller. And damn excellent in Election.
Last thing: Why the hell is this trailer almost three minutes long? If this is a 90 minute movie, then we have seen almost 5% of its entirety. Did they need more time to show up just how lousy this thing will be?
So, out of nowhere, Puck wanted to do a podcast. Then Kenny from UFG got involved. We started talking about movies and a 2 and a half hour conversation took place. I simply started recording so there is no formal introduction, just great movie talk. In Part 1, we cover Paranormal Activity, Battleship, Smurfs and I think I may have stolen a joke from Dane Cook. Kenny’s audio varies in quality, so you may have to turn your volume up a bit during his parts. Enjoy!
