Dennis Hopper Passes Away at 74

Posted on 29 May 2010 by peanutbutterfilthy

Dennis Hopper passed away in his home today at 8:15am Pacific Time. He was 74 and suffered from prostate cancer, and his death was a result of complications from that.

If you are not sure who Dennis Hopper was, then you are clearly just as batty as some of his characters. Allow me to link some of his movies to learn something to that 1% of America, and to remind the other 99% of just how awesome his films were: Easy Rider, Blue Velvet, Jesus’ Son and much to Puck’s delight, Speed. In addition to starring in Easy Rider, he co-wrote and directed it and also directed Colors, a fantastic film. He also did video game voices and hosted an amusing episode of SNL.

This is obviously a very short sample of his very long and distinguished career.  Peruse his resume and watch one of his films tonight.

Munchkin Coroner Dies. Punk Swindler Succumbs to Cancer

Posted on 09 April 2010 by peanutbutterfilthy

Meinhardt Raabe, the Munckin Coroner that pronounced the Wicked Witch of the West dead with the following lines:

As coroner, I must aver
I thoroughly examined her
And she’s not only merely dead,
She’s really, most sincerely dead!

He died today of a heart attack. He was the last surviving cast member of the entire film with any significant dialogue.

Malcom McLaren, manager of the punk band Sex Pistols also died, after battling cancer. He left us yesterday, April 8th. McClaren appeared in The Great Rock and Roll Swindle and The Filth and the Fury, both films by Julien Temple, thus securing my ability to make a post about him on am movie website. McLaren, formed the pistols as a “product” that he would use to make a significant amount of money. Often times, the band would actually be paid to leave their current record label due to their drunken anti-establishment (mostly just drunken) acts. McClaren also formed Bow Wow Wow, managed the Clash for a bit, and produced television shows and artwork. This is merely a slice of what his body of work includes.

Jack Bauer to Kick Ass on the Big Screen

Posted on 28 March 2010 by Puck

It was a sad day in the House o’ Puck on Friday as it was announced that 24, one of my all-time favorites would be ending. While the show really hit its stride in the award-winning Season 5, it has been downhill from there with diminishing ratings and lackluster plot points. Still I will be sad to see it go.

The good news? 24 is that much closer to transitioning to the big screen! Now, we’ve already touched on this in a previous episode but this now seem to be closer to reality now that the burdens of the daily workload creating the show are drawing near. In the last few seasons, one of the big hindrances has been the show’s “real-time” format, but that was admittedly a stretch at times. A 24 movie means the chance to breakaway from a single location with a limited cast and boring filler plotlines. And of course, Jack Bauer kicking ass in a way that can only be done with large explosions and an $80 million budget. Bring it on says I.

The Lost Boy

Posted on 10 March 2010 by peanutbutterfilthy

Corey Haim has died. He was 38. He apparently died after 3am this morning. Corey struggled with an addiction of prescription medications, however, reportedly he was sober at the time of death. As you can see from this old picture of him, we has a teenage heartthrob and starred in The Lost Boys, License to Drive and was on the show The Two Coreys with Corey Feldman, part of which featured him filming The Lost Boys: The Tribe. You can keep up with this information at, oh, let’s say, here. The details of this story keep changing so please utilize the link provided for updates. I am lazy.

His Name Was Boner

Posted on 25 February 2010 by peanutbutterfilthy

Reports are coming in that Andrew Koenig, son of Star Trek’s Walter Koenig, was found dead in Canada. Andrew played possibly one of the best named characters on a show whose main star was a devout Christian in real life, Boner Stabone, on Growing Pains. His father is reporting that it was an apparent suicide, but the cause of death has yet to be officially determined. Read more at the random news site I decide to link in this sentence.

Cobain Biopic In Bloom

Posted on 21 February 2010 by peanutbutterfilthy

I mentioned in a previous article that I would like to see a movie based on the Seattle grunge scene or the life of Kurt Cobain. Well it seems like next year is the planned release of the yet untitled film of just that. Apparently this has been in the works for some time.  Kurt’s widow and opiate specialist Courtney Love, will be an executive producer as well as her attorney (guh?). So far, the only confirmed information that I can find on the great big telephone game that is the internet, is that it will be based on the book Heavier than Heaven and will be directed by Oren Moverman. There are mentions of Ewan McGregor playing Kurt, to the delight of some, while others would rather see Jared Leto. Talent wise, either one of these choices is fine with me. Looks wise, if Jared doesn’t bathe or shave for about a week and dresses like he does when he is in his offensive noise emitting band 30 Seconds to Mars, he would win. Kurt had gone through many a look and Jared bares a resemblance to the odd, eyeliner clad Cobain pictures that are out there. I fear that since this is a project that Courtney Love will have her blood stained hands in, it will make me angry. If you have not picked up on it yet, I don’t really subscribe to the theory that Kurt’s death was a suicide. However, this has not been proven, and she can make any film she wants, regardless of what the truth is. I would however, enjoy seeing Chloe Webb playing Courtney. Courtney auditioned for the part of Nancy in Sid and Nancy, but Webb got the role. Love was still in the film however, playing a different heroin addicted blonde. Hopefully this film will not disappoint.
